Spalding league player’s journey to world semi-finals

Spalding and District Darts League player Scott Williams has been making waves at the sport’s World Championships.

Williams enjoyed a brilliant run to reach the semi-finals of the competition at London’s Alexandra Palace.
The 33-year-old is from just outside South Holland in Swineshead and plays for the village’s Green Dragon pub in the Spalding and District Darts League and Pinchbeck League.
He’s ranked number 52 in the world and qualified for the finals for the first time last year, reaching the second round before losing out to Rob Cross.
This time round he beat Haruki Muramatsu and Danny Noport both 3-1 in the opening rounds before edging past Martin Schindler 4-3.
In the fourth round he beat Damon Heta 4-1 before coming up against the number two seed Michael Van Gerwin in the quarter finals.
Williams hit 12 180s as he defeated the three-time world champion 5-3 in one of the biggest upsets the World Championship has seen.
It put him into a semi-final with the number three seed and now world number one Luke Humphries.
Williams came up against a man in form on Tuesday night though, Humphries emphatically winning 6-0 with an average of 109 and six 100 plus finishes to take the win.
Humphries was due to play the 16-year-old debutant Luke Littler in the final on Wednesday night after The Voice went to press.
