Spalding improve on last year’s showing

Spalding Town have finished the Lincolnshire Premier League in ninth place, closing the season out with a heavy defeat at Grimsby Town.

Jon Manton’s side improved on their 11th placed finish from last season, having picked up six league wins in the county’s top flight.
Manton won the toss and put Grimsby in on Saturday.
Spalding started well with Brandon Andrews (2 for 57) having opener Andy Barlow caught for a golden duck.
Josh Lawrence also picked up 3 for 57 as Grimsby were left 95 for 4.
A partnership of 72 between Grimsby skipper Steven Crossley (52) and Andrew White (33) pushed the hosts on to 167 before more wickets fell making it 198 for 7.
Spalding were well in the game but the tail wagged and number nine Rory Ronaldson’s 29 from 26 helped Grimsby post 261 for 8 from their 50 overs.
Neo Timothy took 2 for 46 and Yuvi Ranaut 1 for 22 for Spalding.
Their reply never got going with Robert Brice (3 for 31) bowling Ranaut with the first ball of the innings.
Chris Dring (29) and Ethan Lawrence (9) helped Spalding along but they both fell with the score on 44 which soon became 68 for 6.
William Gardener’s cameo of 22 was the only highlight bar a six and four from number 11 Harry Birch (11) as Spalding were all out for 109 in the 35th overs.
Liam Redmond took 3 for 12 from seven overs for Grimsby while Isaac Towndrow’s three overs went for 2 for 6.
Spalding 2nd XI finished eighth in South Lincs and Border League Division One after losing to Skegness 2nd XI on the final day of the season.
Robert Seymour’s fine 45 was the highlight for the home side who were bowled out for 110.
Spalding bowlers Billy Gallagher (2 for 10), Thomas De Camps (1 for 18) and Rob Seymour (1 for 42) gave their side hope by picking up early wickets but in the end Skegness sealed a six wicket win in the 25th over.
