Spa day doesn’t go to plan for Spalding Town

Spalding Town suffered a humbling 166-run defeat at Woodhall Spa on Saturday as their fine run in the Lincs ECB Premier League came to a shuddering halt.

A super century Malinga Bandara (100 not out) and 94 from Jonathan Cheer steered hosts Spa to a dominant 265-5 batting first, with Sri Lanka pair Thivanka Rajaratne (2-72) and Nuwan Jayasena (2-90) the pick of the Town bowlers.

Spalding have proved capable of amassing such totals this season, but they were woefully short in their reply. Only Warren Nel (36) and Jayasena (20) made double figures as they were toppled for just 99 in reply.

Paul Timby (4-15) was Woodhall’s chief destroyer as they cemented their third place in the standings.

More cricket to follow.
