Snooker round-up: Ten-point haul boosts Bourne SC A’s top tier title challenge

Division One leaders Bourne SC A saw their title charge gather real momentum in Spalding and District Snooker League last week.

The table toppers picked up ten points from two games as they thrashed fellow high-fliers Pyramid A 6-0 in a rearranged game on Tuesday and then edged out Donington C 4-2 in a much closer clash on Thursday night.

Picking up six points against fellow Bourne side Pyramid was huge, with black ball victories from Max Ayliff (O14) and Oliver Player (O21) proving key.

Bourne really had to work for their win over Donington C, however, with Ian Clare (O21) clinching the contest by pipping Neil Favell (O14) on a re-spotted black.

That clash showcased breaks of 32, 31 and 25 from Carl Gibson (O21), Neil Reynolds (O49) and Player respectively.

Meanwhile, their title rivals Services E and Holbeach A both suffered heavy losses.

In-form Tulips B dished out a 5-1 home reverse to Services, as Mark (O63) and Darren Woodberry (O35) both bagged breaks of 24.

It was an even worse night for ex-leaders Holbeach A, who suffered a 6-0 whitewash at Consti F – despite Neal Jackson’s (O21) 28 break.

Away from the title race, Nic Savic and Bren Bowman produced stellar showings as Tulips A saw off Boundary A 4-2. Savic (O42) starred with a 39 break, while Bowman (O56) made a brilliant 36 clearance after pocketing a 26 break earlier in his frame win over John Tidswell (O21).

In Division Two, leaders Services C collected five welcome points as they beat relegation-threatened Holbeach B 5-1.

Mark Spiller (O7), Shane Cummins (O14), Geoff Hemsil (R21) and Nigel Cherry (O21) all enjoyed frame wins in that one for the pace-setters.

Second-placed Donington A suffered a 4-2 home reverse against Gosberton A, despite breaks of 22 and 20 from Tony Scully (O21).

Fellow title-hunters Long Sutton B roared to a 5-1 triumph over Pyramid C, with three of their players on fantastic form. Thomas Horspool (O35) led the way with a 37 break, while Phil Goodman (O35) and Carl Parnell (O28) added scores of 24 and 21 respectively.

Elsewhere, Tom Peppercorn’s (O14) 30 break steered Services F to a 5-1 victory at Donington B.

Down in Division Three, top-of-the-table Crowland C enjoyed a 5-1 win over Bourne SC B. Darren Crosby (O35) did rack up a 26 break for the beaten Bourne side.

ConstI I, the only side looking capable of catching Crowland, kept in touch with a 4-2 victory at Services D. Richard Geddes (R7) settled that one in the final frame.

At the other end of the table, it was a good week for basement side Gosberton C.

They bagged only a fourth win of the season by seeing off hosts Consti D 4-2.
