Snooker round-up: Maximum victory sees Holbeach A begin the year as top tier leaders

Holbeach A start 2018 as leaders in Division One of Spalding and District Snooker League after an impressive 6-0 victory over Long Sutton A.

Breaks of 34 and 24 from Jem Merrison (O35) and Mick Ayres (O7) helped Holbeach move one point clear of Bourne SC A at the top – although they have now played a game more.

Level with Bourne – and also a point off the summit – are Services E, who defeated Donington C 5-1. A 26 break from Ben Wrigglesworth (O21) was in vain for Donington, while Martin Spencer (O14) reeled off a 25 break for the high-flying Spalding side.

Holbeach D are some 12 points off the top three despite their 4-2 home success over Holbeach C.

Ian Woodberry’s (O7) 27 clearance in the final frame helped settle that one.

At the other end of the table, it’s Boundary B who begin the year as basement boys. They went down 4-2 against Consti B despite a cool 21 break from Dougy Lythgoe (O14).

Consti F remain in relegation strife after going down 4-2 at home to Boundary A. Black-ball victories from Pete King (scr) and Andy Mowforth (O7) proved key for the Deepings side, who move up to seventh.

That’s one point behind sixth-placed Tulips B, who beat Pyramid B 4-2 despite a 25 break from talisman Jason Green (O70).

In Division Two, Services C are three points clear at the top after a battling 4-2 victory at Donington B. Kev Fitter (O14) beat Mick Clark (scr) in the final frame to settle the tight tussle.

That’s because previous pace-setters Boundary C crashed to a 5-1 loss at third-placed Donington A.

Tony Scully’s (O28) 24 break proved key for Donington, who are just four points off the lead now.

Just two points further back are Long Sutton B, who defeated Holbeach B 4-2.

Carl Parnell (O28) sank a 22 break en-route to victory in the opening frame for victorious Sutton.

Fifth-placed Gosberton A also won well, dispatching Consti H 5-1 in a clash that boasted three frames that went to the final black.

Meanwhile, a 39 break from Lee Davies (O14) was the best of the week as his Pyramid D side beat Services A 5-1 on their home baize.

in Division Three, leaders Crowland C suffered only their second loss of the season. In-form Consti E won 5-1 at the leaders thanks to black-ball wins from Mark Craig (R14), Kevin Sweeney (scr) and Lindsay Porter (R14) in the final three frames.

That allowed Consti I to slash their lead at the top to three points with a 4-2 home win over Consti J.

Richard Geddes (R14) settled that one in the final frame of a close clash.

Elsewhere, Ady Halgarth’s (R7) 27 clearance for Gosberton B in a 4-2 loss at Pyramid E was the best break in the division.
