LATEST: Police search house as investigation into shooting at Whaplode nursery continues

whaplode-shooting-long-sutton-home-cropUpdate: Friday, 2.15pm – Police have confirmed that they have been searching a property in Long Sutton as part of the investigation into a shooting at a Whaplode nursery which left a man with a serious injury.

An eyewitness told The Voice: “Police arrived yesterday (Thursday) and the vigil went on all night.

“There are two vans in the driveway, a [police] car has just turned up and they’re searching the property.”

The injured 58-year-old has undergone surgery at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

A 56-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the incident.

 

Friday, 11.30am: Police investigating a shooting incident at a Whaplode farm, which left a man in hospital with a serious injury.

It happened at Mint Farm, in Hockney Hole Lane, at about 11am on Thursday (December 8). Police and an air ambulance were called to the scene.

The scene has remained taped off since with a police guard in place.

The wounded 58-year-old is in Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, with an arm injury.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “The incident involved a shotgun and we’re looking into the circumstances of whether or not it was discharged accidentally.”

The property where the incident took place is owned by Baytree Garden Centre at Weston.

General manager Nigel Wallis said: “The nursery is leased to a third party and the incident has nothing whatsoever to do with any Baytree staff.”
