Scheme aims to empower youth

A South Holland charity is launching an initiative to work with young people who are unsure about what career path to take.

Tonic Health has received UK Shared Prosperity Levelling Up Funding to launch the Empower Scheme.
It involves workshops specifically aimed at those aged 16 to 25.
A spokesman said: “The project is looking to identify, support and develop approximately 30 individuals to increase their personal confidence or soft skills and teach them a range of methods to reach their personal potential and become more employable or work-ready.
“Individuals might have had a gap year, are unsure whether to go back into education or the workplace, or even have a business idea but don’t know how to progress from idea from inception.”
Themes covered by the Empower Scheme will include: confidence building; interpersonal skills/personal development; teamwork; employability skills; digital skills; identifying a product/business idea; understanding marketing/sales/finance; access to work experience/volunteering opportunities.
There will also be individual and group emotional support and coaching made available to each participant.
Alongside this, each participant will also gain a recognised Level one or Level two qualification in a business-related subject, studying with Boston College.
Each cohort will last approximately six months and have access to Tonic Health’s facilities, tablets and WIFI (if required) as well as its staff and volunteers for any support they might require.
Tonic Health founder and chair of trustees, Michael Morris has brought in artist Ryan Gilmartin and coach and businesswoman Wendy-Anne Steer to oversee the two cohorts of 15 young people.
“All have experience and a vested interest in the future generations having the skills and confidence to progress on a personal and professional level,” the spokesman continued. “Some people are very fortunate to know what they want from a career and what they need to get it, but this isn’t the case for everyone.
“Those who are at a crossroads and uncertain which way to turn will be ideal for this project.”
