From transferring patients’ paper records onto one of the first computerised systems, to playing a part in the building of a brand new surgery, Dr Charles Lennon has been part of the fabric of Munro Medical Centre in Spalding for 28 years.
But he will make out his final prescription on Monday, October 31 – his final day before retirement.
Dr Lennon started at the surgery in 1988 as an extra sixth doctor.
Back then there was one nurse, a part-time manager, one secretary and six receptionists. Today the clinical team consists of seven doctors, a nurse practitioner, an extended skills nurse, one paramedic, eight nurses, and five healthcare assistants. The administration roles are covered by 45 support staff.
He said: “It has been a big change from a doctor-lead service to a multi-disciplinary over the years.
“We used to do all on-call including weekends and bank holidays, as well as delivering babies at the maternity unit.
“All of this in an age with no mobile phones or computerised system!”
Dr Lennon is keen to remain working within the NHS in other areas, with the advantage of having more free time to pursue his hobbies of cycling, scuba diving and photography.
The surgery said: “We hope you will all join us in wishing Charles a very happy and healthy retirement.”
