Reporting crime helps our police

Police say they do have enough resources to cover the Holbeach area after recent criticism.

At a previous meeting of the parish council Coun Sam Bailey claimed that because people in the town weren’t reporting crimes, a PCSO had been moved to be based in Long Sutton.
Following that, a request was put in for police to attend a Holbeach Parish Council meeting, but when they declined, chair Rick Stevens and clerk Jan Hearsey went to meet a representative at the town’s station.
They reported to another meeting of the council that just one officer was now based at Holbeach.
Lincolnshire Police though say this doesn’t account for its Neighbourhood Policing team, the rural crime action team, dog officers and armed response vehicles.
Inspector Matt Dickinson said: ‘Neighbourhood Policing Teams provide much needed support and visibility to their local communities.
“The allocation of staff is based on several factors, however just because one area has slightly more staff than another does not mean operational policing is impacted.
“The teams are flexible and will pull together in times of need.
“We also draw on support from operational support teams and response officers.
“There are also officers/staff who work on investigations, safeguarding and prevention and supporting uniformed officers.
“On top of this we work in partnership with many other agencies and organisations to focus on dealing with threat, harm and risk.
“My plea to the public is to continue to report matters that need to be brought to police attention.
“If incidents are not reported it could impact on police being able to place resources where they are needed the most at any given time.
“There will always be a police officer available to deal with that report be it from a response team, neighbourhood team or another department.”
