Repair work to start on ram-raided Co-op store

Customers are expected to be able to return to Donington’s Co-op store early in the New Year, with work due to get under way to repair ram-raid damage on Monday (November 28).

A John Deere teleporter was driven into the front of the Market Place store at the end of September, leaving the pavement area in front of it and part of the road closed since.

Simon Taylor, area manager for the Co-op, said: “Our aim is to repair and re-open the store as quickly as possible. Contractors are now set to start and we look forward to being able to serve the community from the store again.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused while it remains temporarily closed and thank the local authority, contractors and community for all their support.”

A pop-up shop continues to operate and a free minibus service to Billingborough Co-op.

A Co-op statement said: “Work is expected to start on Monday when approvals, consents and plans for a programme of site works are all in place.
“It is too early to confirm the launch date. It is expected to re-open to serve the community early in the new year.”

The ram-raiders left the scene empty-handed in a dark 4×4 flatbed vehicle and a dark blue saloon car.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Spalding CID on 101, quoting incident number 27 of September 29.
