Remembrance services throughout South Holland

South Holland will pay its respects to those who have lost their lives in armed conflicts over the new few days.

On Armistice Day today (November 11) there will be a service led by Rev John Bennett at Springfields War Memorial. Muster at 10.30am outside the shopping centre.

On Saturday, November 13 a short Service will take place in Spalding Cemetery at 10.30am

Remembrance Sunday will see a host of events across the area, including the annual parade in Spalding. Roads in and around the town centre and Ayscoughfee Gardens, where an outdoor service will take place at 11am, will be closed from 10.15am.

There will be a service The Holbeach parade of more than 30 military vehicles, led by 100-year-old Jack Mills, will leave the Boxing Club, Fleet Street at 10.30am.

It will make its way to the War Memorial for wreath-laying and the Act of Remembrance.

A church service is due to be held at the parish church at 2pm.

The parade of vehicles, organised by Harold Payne of the Anglia Motel, Fleet Hargate, will attend memorials across South Holland to lay wreaths.

It will start at Fleet Hargate at 8am; Gedney Church 8.30am; Long Sutton Memorial 9am; Lutton Memorial 9.30am; Gedney Dyke at 9.45am. After Holbeach it will go to Sutton St James at noon; Holbeach St Johns memorial at 12.30pm; Moulton 1pm; Moulton Seas End 1.30pm; Holbeach St Marks 2.30pm and Dawsmere at 3.30pm.
Crowland will be holding a service at the war memorial on Sunday at 3pm.

At Long Sutton there will be a parade on Sunday at 2.15pm from St Mary’s Church to the war memorial. There will be a church service at 2.30pm followed by tea and coffee at the Royal British Legion’s West Street building.

Donington will hold a service in the parish church at 10.45am followed by refreshments in the church hall.

At Sutton Bridge there will be a service at St Matthew’s Church at 10.30am. Wreaths will also be laid at the Commonwealth War Graves in the village.
