Punched and tried to headbutt police officer

A Spalding man who hit a police officer who was trying to walk him away from an argument in the street, has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Bruce Angus Noble, 32, of Saddlers Mead, who admitted assault when he appeared at Boston Magistrates
Court, was said to have been found by police officers staggering around in St Paul’s Close at 5.25pm on
March 7 after they had been called there because of a report of various adults arguing in the street.

Initially he gave a false name to the police who tried to walk him away but Noble threatened to fight the
officer and tried to headbutt him before punching him in the face causing a cut to his nose.

He later admitted drinking vodka during the day and said that his memory of events was ‘a blur’ but he
thought he may have struck the officer ‘by mistake’.

Mitigating, Michael Alexander said Noble was showing clear remorse but he clearly had some mental
health issues which he had not dealt with.

After hearing from the Probation Service, District Judge Peter Veits said that only his family had saved
him from going straight to prison.

He imposed a 10 weeks sentence suspended for a year with 20 days rehabilitation and a 90 day
electronically monitored alcohol abstinence monitoring requirement.

He was also ordered to pay compensation to the police officer and court costs and charges.
