When Lutterworth Town held Pinchbeck United to a 1-1 draw back in August, player/boss Ian Dunn hailed them as the best team in ChromaSport UCL Division One.
Fast forward nearly five months and the Knights are ten points clear at the top of the table and 13 ahead of Town, who they visit on Saturday (3pm).
With Pinchbeck confirming this week that they have officially applied for promotion to the UCL Premier Division, number two Allan Ross admits that things couldn’t be going much better for the club on the pitch.
And the respected assistant boss feels that the squad had improved markedly since they last took on Lutterworth.
“I’m over the moon with how this season has gone so far,” said Ross. “It’s all down to having a great group of lads that are coachable.
“They have a great work-rate and togetherness and are a pleasure to work with.
“This week we had it confirmed that we’ve applied for promotion – so hopefully our good work on the pitch will encourage the club to make strides off the pitch.
“With regards to Lutterworth, we’re confident that we can go there and win. Perhaps the pressure is on them a little more, as they can’t afford to slip up if they want to catch us.
“If we can beat them, we’ll probably have knocked them out of the title race.
“I do think we’ve come a long way since we last played them, too.
“We’re fitter and 100 per cent more streetwise.
“We know that Lutterworth are a very dangerous side going forward – and in Tendai Daire they have a wonderful striker that could step up a few levels.
“Obviously we can’t win every game. But we’re in a position that allows us to be happy with a point if we can’t get a win.
“We’re confident enough to go there and attack them if they want to sit back.
“But we’re also comfortable enough to sit back and soak up the pressure if we need to.”
Pinchbeck should be boosted by the return of winger Josh Smith to the fold, but defender Luke Gardner is set to see a specialist in his search to cure a nagging groin problem.
Winger Aaron Eyett should also feature after making a scoring debut at Potton.
