Positives to take for G&S Racing Kawasaki pairing at Brands Hatch

The Wyberton-based G&S Racing Kawasaki team headed to Kent for a round of the Pirelli National Superstock and Junior Superstock championships at Brands Hatch over the weekend.

Zak Fuller recorded a strong 13th place in the Junior race and Jorel Boerboom took 24th and 26th place in the two Senior races, making a solid showing for the team.

New Zealand rider Fuller had never seen the Brands Hatch international circuit prior to Friday, but was quick to learn his way around the 2.4332 mile course.

He took his time during the two free practice sessions to get to grips with the track layout and went on to qualify in 16th position for a sixth row start to his race on Sunday morning.

He got a clean start and settled into 14th place for the first two laps before moving forward to 12th on lap three.

He maintained his position throughout the majority of the 14 laps until he was beaten back to 13th by Lynden Leatherhead with three laps remaining.

Unable to regain his position he crossed the finish line for a very creditable 13th place to pick up three championship points, which brings his total to date to 20.

Meanwhile, Dutch rider Boerboom had two races to contest in his first season on the big Kawasaki.

He qualified in 32nd place and started the first race from the middle of the 11th row.

It was always going to be a struggle to catch the faster riders at the front of the field but Boerboom got stuck in and picked off the opposition to make it through to 24th place on lap seven.

But the red flag brought the race to an abrupt end and he was awarded 24th place when a result was declared at ten laps’ distance.

Boerboom’s lap times from race one gave him an improved grid position and he started the second race on Sunday from the ninth row in 27th place.

He was able to make up a couple of places and the pace was much quicker resulting in a 26th place finish.

Team manager Tom Fisher said: “We had a very good weekend and both riders had much better results.

“Jorel has improved his lap times throughout the weekend and is moving forward with every outing. We need to work on his qualifying as his position doesn’t reflect the effort he puts in.

“Considering Zak hadn’t even heard of Brands Hatch before Friday and only rode 48 laps all weekend I was impressed by his attitude and ability.”

The next round for both riders is at Thruxton on August 12.
