With the 107th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme on Saturday, there couldn’t be a more poignant time for these poppies to bloom.
Seeds scattered around the memorial have germinated and produced a blaze of colour.
The flowers are around the First World War pillbox in the aptly-named Poppyfields, Spalding.
South Holland District Council’s Heritage Champion Coun Liz Sneath said she was ‘delighted and moved’ to see the flowers around the building which was renovated last year.
