Plans passed for new council depot

A new council vehicle depot looks set to open after planning permission was granted.

South Holland District Council has been allowed to turn the former Light Source site in Bervor Close, Pinchbeck into a depot for storage and distribution.
The site had previously been for sale for £1m.
Documents submitted with the application state: “The resulting development would result in the use of the current hardstanding yard area for the parking of vehicles and storage of materials with the building being utilised for storage with ancillary office space and employee welfare facilities.
“It is envisaged the site would accommodate approximately six refuse collection vehicles, eight cage transit vans, four road sweepers and six assorted other vehicles and space to park 45 staff cars.
“The site would operate largely between the hours of 5.30am and 6pm.”
The district council recently sold its Holbeach depot to Aldi and said it was looking to purchase a replacement with it having previously confirmed it was leasing land from Station Storage to house the vehicles previously stored in Holbeach, a company owned by deputy leader Coun Tracey Carter.
At the time Coun Henry Bingham said other options were looked at but became unavailable saying: “The site suited temporary need and was deemed good value for the short period of time it is likely to be required.”
The change of use was passed by South Holland District Council’s Planning Committee when they met recently.
Coun Anthony Casson, told the meeting: “We’ve been looking for a site for many years for the refuse lorries.
“This is a golden opportunity so close to the existing one down West Marsh Road, so we’ll still be using that one. It’s all fenced, hard-standing and ready to move in asap.”
