PLANNING: Major homes plan for Long Sutton

Proposals for a development comprising more than 200 homes in Long Sutton have been submitted to South Holland District Council.

The agricultural land between Seagate Road and Wisbech Road is earmarked for development as part of the South East Lincolnshire Local Plan.

Now an outline planning application for approximately 215 homes has been submitted care of Hix and Sons Estate Agents in Holbeach for the development.

Two accesses to the development are proposed, one each from the roads the site is between.

The proposals also include plans for a public open space, trim trail and footpath improvements especially along the route of the former Spalding to Kings Lynn railway that marks the northern boundary of the site.

It’s proposed that construction work would be completed in four phases, subject to a full planning application being granted.

A planning statement included as part of the application, states: “The site would form a natural extension to the built area of Long Sutton without having significant impact upon the character of the area, and contributes a good proportion of the 560 dwellings the local plan period has been calculated to require prior to 2036.”

The chairman of Long Sutton Parish Council, Charles Moore, is urging local residents to come forward with any concerns they may have.

Charles said: “Housing is paramount but we just want to make sure that South Holland District Council don’t push plans to meet the numbers of housing they need.

“We want to make any new housing estate is done well.

“If anybody has any issues then they can reach out to us and South Holland council and we will do our best to echo these and make sure they are heard.

“We need proper family houses that are affordable and it’s about getting the balance right.

“We’ve had some residential concerns already particularly about the access to the site with Seagate Road being a single track road and over the infrastructure in Long Sutton.

“The likes of Long Sutton’s primary schools and doctors surgeries are very over-stretched as anyone who is involved with them will now.”

The application is set to be discussed at the next meeting of Long Sutton Parish Council.

It’s due to meet at 7pm on Thursday, January 25 in Long Sutton Baptist Church in West Street.
