Pinchbeck United chief Dunn feels second is the best his side can do

Dan Woods helped himself to a hat-trick as Pinchbeck United rounded off an unbeaten December with a 4-1 home win over AFC Stanground.

Hitman Woods gave his side a 2-0 lead at half time thanks to a drilled free kick and a clever placed finish from 20 yards.

The striker then rounded off his treble with a backheel from a corner, before player/boss Ian Dunn headed home a textbook fourth.

Dunn’s delighted to see his side finish 2015 in fifth place and feels that his side are in the mix for second place – conceding that the title is Moulton Harrox’s to lose now.

Indeed, Dunn’s fifth-placed side are ten points behind the leaders, having played a game more.

He said: “It was a very good win for us. It could have been all over inside ten minutes if I’m honest, we missed so many chances.

“We got frustrated with ourselves because we didn’t score, but once we settled back down we scored and never looked in any trouble really.

“We wanted to go December unbeaten and we have done just that, so that’s kept us in the mix at the top. I must say though, what a result for Moulton to win 2-0 at Whittlesey. They have to be title favourites now, they’ve been superb.

“We’re among a group of sides that could get second place.”

Under-16 ace Jack Withers made his debut for the first team as a sub at Knight Street.

He’s the second under-16 to feature this campaign, with Jack Brown also starring against Langtoft and Sawtry earlier in the season.
