Pinchbeck eye perfect 10 to clinch championship

Pinchbeck United are a maximum 10 wins away from the ChromaSports UCL Division One title ahead of two huge fixtures.

Ian Dunn’s charges comfortably brushed aside Thrapston Town 3-0 at the weekend.

But there’s tough fixtures ahead including Saturday’s local derby at Bourne Town.

That’s followed by the eagerly awaited match up with Raunds Town who look like the only side who may be able to stop the Pinchbeck title party.

Firstly though Dunn and Pinchbeck have to see off Bourne.

“They are on a good run and they play some nice football,” Dunn said. “They’re a fairly young side and it won’t be easy, but we’re on a good run ourselves.”

It’s 15 games unbeaten now for Pinchbeck with Liam Ogden, Tom Sergeant and Nick Bishop scoring against Thrapston last weekend.

For the Bourne game Pinchbeck have Andrew Tidswell and Tony Edwards back in contention.

Luke Gardner however remains out with a groin problem and it looks unlikely Ashley Murrell will feature due to a niggling ankle issue.

Dunn said: “Ash only played 45 minutes last Saturday.

“He’s unlikely to feature this Saturday and hopefully with a week’s rest we will have him back and fully fit for the Raunds game the following Saturday.”

Third and fourth placed Rushden and Potton both dropped points at the weekend as they were involved in an entertaining 4-4 draw.

As a result they’re now respectively 14 and 16 points behind the Knights in the table.

Raunds are now seven points behind Pinchbeck having played a game more and they face Lutterworth Town at the weekend.

“We’ve got 13 games to go and if we win 10 then we’re champions,” said Dunn. “That’s if Raunds win all 12 of their games. That would be a heck of a run but it’s not out of the question.

“But the pressure is all on them and the other chasing teams. If they don’t win a game then that’s one less that we have to win in the run-in.

“Lutterworth Town will also be a tough one for them this weekend.

“I think Lutterworth are probably the toughest team we’ve faced this season but seem to have problems with consistency.

“First and foremost though we have to beat Bourne this weekend and then focus on the match against Raunds next week.”
