Open Mic night in Spalding tonight

Local cultural group White Horse Writers will be restarting their popular Open Mic Nights at Sergi’s Tapas Bar, Francis St, Spalding tonight (Thursday, September 28) at 7pm.

These events are open to anyone who wants to try out poetry, music, drama or anything else in front of a friendly audience.

One of the organisers, local poet and artist Callum Brazzo, said: “Open mic nights were a regular part of the Spalding scene until the pandemic lockdown, but now seems like a good time to bring folk back together.

“Many people have missed the chance to share their work in a supportive atmosphere. Spalding really needs this kind of event.”

Another taking part will be former Stamford Poet Laureate, Scott Coe.

Scott will be familiar to many on the local cultural scene; he started off not as a poet but a lyricist, citing the likes of Noel Gallagher, Lennon and McCartney, Bob Dylan, Guy Chambers, Billy Bragg and Neil Tennant as some of his primary influences.

Another of the organisers, Martin Blake, said: “Everyone is welcome to just turn up on the night, either to perform or simply to watch and be entertained. If you want to book a slot in advance, however, get in touch via our White Horse Writers Facebook page, or phone me on 07762 189783.”
