No excuses from Ross as ten-man Pinchbeck United are finally beaten

Pinchbeck United’s remarkable 36-game unbeaten streak in the Future Lions United Counties League was smashed for six by ruthless Premier Division leaders Daventry Town on Saturday.

The goals came from Jordan Orosz (20 and 68), Adam Creaney (pen 27), Kieran Fitzgerald (70), Tommy McGowan (76) and Phil Cassidy (86) at Communications Park, as the second-placed Knights fell five points off the pace – albeit with a game in hand.

The flashpoint of the contest saw Pinchbeck player/boss Ian Dunn sent off for an alleged elbow early in the second half while the score was 2-0.

Assistant manager Allan Ross offered no excuses for his side, insisting that Daventry were just too good on the day.

He did, however, feel that they could have shut up shop and limited the damage on the day.

Ross said: “Fair play to Daventry. We’d watched them twice away from home, but they were a different animal on their own patch. I certainly hope we haven’t got to go there again any time soon!

“I’m obviously very disappointed by the result. I thought that we were outclassed on the day and, for the first time in a long time, we were outworked.

“But I can’t sit here and offer any regrets and criticise the lads. We did everything properly and prepared as usual.

“They carried on going to the end and we probably could have had a few goals.

“I thought it was a very close game up until the red card, too. Ian (Dunn) is obviously disappointed with it and I perhaps thought the referee was a little inconsistent on the day.

“I was the one who pushed Ian to start, we needed more experience on the day.

“We’ll not go over-the-top about this defeat. We’ve had a great start to the season and nothing needs to change.”
