New toilets are far from bog standard

The roll out of Holbeach’s completely revamped public toilets has taken place.

The work to update the facilities and make them more secure has been funded by the Town Centre Improvement grants and the Changing Places Fund.

The latter is a government fund to improve access for those with a disability.

But it also includes new security features including an electronic door mechanism to ensure it will be open 7am to 9pm every day.

It has a single entry with three cubicles, including both disabled and baby changing facilities.

It also includes washable walls and new appliances throughout while a complete drainage system has also been installed.

There are new ceilings and energy efficient lighting throughout.

In order to get the facility open for the holidays temporary wash basins have bee installed as new vanity units have been delayed due to nationwide supply issues, but councillors say “this should be rectified within a few weeks”.

Coun Tracey Carter, said, “I am delighted the toilets are finally refurbished and reopened in Holbeach.

“They are another asset for the town, supporting footfall, traders and visitors, making a big difference.

“The electronic door lock that we are trialling, means that we can have them open for much longer hours, is also very welcome and something I was very keen to encourage.

“The opening hours previously were too limited, so I’m delighted that Holbeach is trialling the new extended hours.”

Coun Nick Worth, portfolio holder for Holbeach Town Improvement, said: “This has been a major investment in the town’s infrastructure that will make a substantial difference to retailers, residents and visitors to the town and is often the first impression that people get when visiting a town.

“I am therefore pleased to have been able to support this through the district council’s Town Improvement Fund and I am sure it will bring welcome relief to many!”
