New county adviser for NFU takes up role

The National Farmers’ Union’s new county adviser in Holland (Lincs) is Danny O’Shea.

He moves to the county post from being membership communications manager in the NFU’s Warwickshire headquarters and prior to that was a local group secretary.

Danny said: “It’s a real honour to have been appointed to the role of county adviser. I’m particularly looking forward to meeting and working with our members and elected officeholders and representatives across the county.
“I’m committed to ensuring that the group offices in Boston, Bourne, Sleaford, Spalding and Spilsby have the support they need from the NFU.
“I am also determined to raise the profile of the horticulture and potato sector in the region, ensuring that we feed into policy decisions on a national level.”

Regional director Gordon Corner said: “Farmers and growers are facing a time of upheaval and uncertainty as we move to the next stage of negotiating the UK’s exit from the EU. There are many issues on which NFU must take the lead, whether that’s the huge task of ensuring the long term sustainability and profitability of farming businesses post 2020 or the more immediate but just as important concerns such as labour provision, business rate changes or hare coursing.

“I’m sure Danny will bring the enthusiasm and diligence that he’s displayed in his former NFU roles to the five branches of Spalding, Bourne, Boston, Spilsby and Sleaford.

” His members will, I know, make him welcome and he will soon be up to speed with the challenges that face them. In turn, Danny will want to make sure that the vast amount of work NFU does on behalf of our members is well communicated and that farmers and growers understand and value their NFU membership in these changing times.”
