NEW BEST: NVH's Hannah Molyneaux (centre) threw 14.44m.

Nene Valley shot put star Molyneaux raises the bar with big new PB at Loughborough

South Holland talent Hannah Molyneaux continues to go from strength to strength for Nene Valley Harriers.

The teenager, who is coached by Geoff Capes, threw the 3kg shot put a club record and personal best (PB) distance of 14.44m at the Loughborough Open meeting on Saturday.

Molyneaux was already top of the current UK age group rankings – but this throw has moved her up to seventh in the all-time rankings.

Also at Loughborough, Becky Hall threw the 4kg version 11.85m, which was below par for the senior lady athlete but still got her into third place on the day.

Martin Tinkler recorded a season’s best throw of 14.34m in the senior men’s 7.26kg shot to complete the trio of NVH athletes coached by Holbeach hero Capes.

Elsewhere, under-17 Alex Pullan ran a PB 60m in her second race – recording a good time of 8.31secs just one hundredth quicker than her first race.

  • Georgie Ivens continued her recovery from injury at the London Games, running 26.03secs in the ladies’ 200m – just a few hundredths off her indoor PB. Sickness and that 200m left her tired for the following 400m where she still ran a reasonable time of 58.81secs.

Under-20 Rosie Marshall ran her first 400m since May last year and recorded an indoor PB of 65.52secs.

Max Butler, better known for his 800m running, competed in the men’s under-20 400m in a very tight race which was decided on the line. He was fourth overall with an indoor PB of 52.69secs.

Carl Titman was Nene Valley’s only field event athlete at the event and his competiveness was well rewarded with a good leap of 4.10 in the senior men’s pole vault.

Nene Valley were well represented in the under-20 60m races, with Spalding’s Lily Hughes running slightly off her personal best with 7.78secs. Marginally slower second round of 8.81secs gave her sixth under-20 for the round.

Kane Wright also showed a consistent result with his season’s best performance of 7.01secs in the first round, followed by 7.03secs in the second round – making him fourth fastest under-20.

Callum Crosby was the club’s third under-20 competing in the 60m races. His first round run broke his PB with 7.39secs and then his attitude was tested in the second round after the race took three attempts to get going.

After two disqualifications Crosby came through after the first 30m to record a new PB time of 7.35secs.

Julian Smith, a vet 45 athlete, had his best season opener ever recording times of 7.74secs and 7.69secs, while James Thomas recorded times of 7.79secs and 7.56secs.
