Moulton motor into cup quarter-finals

Moulton Harrox boss Bobby Patterson hailed his side’s best performance of the season so far as they ousted one of the favourites from the Lincs FA Junior Cup on Saturday.

His side are in the draw for the last eight of the competition after the victory over Lincoln Moorlands Railway who have lost just once in the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League this season.

“It was a really good performance, definitely our best of the season by some way,” Patterson said. “We had everyone fit and available playing one of the favourites for the cup and all the lads stepped up.

“We competed really well and got the win.

“We got the goal after an hour and that gave us something to hold on to.

“The second with 10 minutes left killed it off.”

Following a tight first half, Moulton took control in the second period.

The first goal came on the hour mark.

Declan Earth found space by breaking through the line squaring for Ian Bradbury who finished well.

Harrox defended well throughout and then took advantage of a lapse at the back to make the game safe with 10 minutes to go.

Right back Josh McGuire took up the invitation to run forward with the ball deep into Moorlands territory.

His first shot was well blocked but he reacted quickest to pick up the rebound and while his second shot was also deflected, it looped up and over the keeper and into the net to ensure Moulton’s quarter-final slot.

“He doesn’t score that many so he got mobbed, by all the players,” Patterson continued. “It just opened up for him.

“I’m pleased he did get so far forward in the end.”
