Moulton Harrox eye another strong season in 2017/18 after awards bash

Moulton Harrox are eyeing another successful season next time around after wrapping up their 2016/17 campaign with their annual awards bash.

Finishing third in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division behind champions Peterborough Sports Reserves and promoted Pinchbeck United represented a strong season for the first team, while the impressive Reserves did a super Division One and PFA Challenge Cup double.

For the first team, the ever-reliable Joe Townsend landed the coveted players’ player of the season prize, while Jake Cawthorne picked up the manager’s player of the season gong.

Top scorer Marcus Parry, who notched 30 times in his first season at Premier Division level, walked away with the outstanding achievement prize.

Skipper John Ball was the winner of the Reserves’ players’ player prize, with defender Bobby Patterson clinching the manager’s player accolade.

Free-scoring youngster Declan Earth, who notched 34 goals in 32 games, was the oustanding achievement recipient.

Also handed out on the night was the Clubman award, which went to Reserve team chief Kev Nottingham following his outstanding first season in charge of the team.

Club secretary Stuart Manning feels both teams can build on last season and has backed them to battle for honours on all fronts next time around.

He said: “I think both teams can be pleased with their seasons. Finishing third behind Peterborough Sports and Pinchbeck was about as good as the first team could have hoped for after a difficult start.

“With Pinchbeck going up and all of the players showing a desire to stay, the lads will hopefully be targeting the league title next season.

“It’s expected that a few of the Reserve team lads may step up to the first team after such a great year.

“Kev and the team will be looking to defend their titles and hopefully they’ll have another great season.”

Moulton return to pre-season training on June 20 (7.15pm), with all players old and new welcome to attend.
