Moulton Chapel planning row looks set to end after new permission granted

An end could be in sight for a long running planning dispute that halted building on a Moulton Chapel estate.

Allison Homes has been granted permission to complete its 86 home development north of Roman Road.

It had previously been served enforcement action after making the site higher than the surrounding area and contrary to the permitted plans.

It appealed South Holland District Council’s decision to refuse a retrospective application but also submitted a new application to rebuild the homes at a lower level which was passed by the authority’s Planning Committee last night (Wednesday).

The new permission is for the site to be around 500mm higher, 540mm at its highest point, which planning officers told the committee was usual for developments in the area.

The already built road will have to be broken up and replaced, the meeting was told.

Ian Reilly, group head of planning for Allison Homes said: ““We are sorry the situation arose and we have taken steps internally to ensure that it does not occur again.

“The committee has told us what to do and we have listened to that advice and we’ve engaged positively with the parish council.”

Ward member coun Anthony Casson said: “It’s a pity Alisson Homes upset so many in the village carting all the stone in.

“It caused a lot of bother in Moulton Chapel with all the dust, but I’m happier with the more sensible levels.”

Coun Henry Bingham added: “The applicant owes it to Moulton Chapel and the amount of mess it has created to see it through and withdraw their appeal.”

When asked if Allison Homes would withdraw the appeal, Mr Reilly said on Thursday: “We are pleased that South Holland District Council’s Planning Committee has approved our Discharge of Conditions application.

“We look forward to now receiving the formal Decision Notice from the Council and can then work with their officers to conclude any outstanding matters from there.”

Lawrence Wakefield, a member of Moulton Chapel Parish Council and who has led opposition locally, said: “I hope inspectors keep an eye on things.

“I hope Allison build us a nice estate in Moulton Chapel we can be proud of and in keeping with the rest of the village.”
