Men’s 3rd hand Nomads a 9-0 thrashing

UEA 1st 1
Spalding Ladies’ 1st 2
Goals: Sophie Gleave, Maddie Haunch

Spalding travelled to Norwich hoping to get another win in what has been a tricky season. UEA have struggled too and were delighted to find themselves ahead when their forward rounded keeper Abby Hodgett to score.
Eventually, with ten minutes of the first half remaining, Gleave stepped onto a loose ball in the D and made no mistake with her finish.
Spalding survived a penalty stroke which was initially awarded then corrected to a penalty corner and were grateful for some fantastic saves by Hodgett.
The teams went into the break level, and both had a point to prove.
More chances came and went for Spalding with the home team pulling off some equally remarkable saves. Eventually Haunch was able to stab the ball home on the hour mark just as it seemed the goal would never come.

St Neots 2st 4
Spalding Ladies’ 2st 1
Goals: Amy Naylor

With a strong squad Spalding were sure they could secure at least a draw, however, within the first few minutes, St Neots scored.
Relentless attacks were forced upon St Neots with a number of near misses around the goalmouth.
Frustratingly, St Neots’ counter attack was fierce and quick allowing them to slip in a further two goals despite superb keeping from Freya Lee.
Annie Price was fantastic in the defensive line up, working the ball swiftly out of danger and up the pitch to Lauren Pitts who struck it hard, meeting Naylor’s stick for the team’s only goal.

Spalding Ladies’ 3rd 5
Haverhill 1st 1
Goal: AJ Taplin (3), Millie Hastings, Camille Rogers

Haverhill grabbed an early goal from a short corner, putting them 1-0 up, however this didn’t stop Spalding dominating. The first goal came from a short corner, where a scramble in the D led to an equaliser.
Minutes later, Taplin scored another goal.
The second half brought more goals, a strong hit from Charlotte Morris in defence reached Taplin again in the D, where she converted the third goal.
Taplin then completed her hat trick in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The final goal came from a team effort, where Chloe Preston, Rogers and Emily Wright worked hard together in the D.

Spalding Men’s 1st 4
City of Peterborough 2nd 3
Goals: Joe Rogers, Jacob Baker, Ethan Pearson, Tom Mayhew

The first half started off with a bang as City of Peterborough 2nd scored twice, leaving Spalding reeling. However, they quickly regained their composure and struck back with a goal from an efficiently executed drag flick by Rogers.
As the second half got underway, the home team quickly took control of the game and scored two goals in quick succession, with a great chance being finished by Baker and a clean strike by Pearson.
Peterborough managed to score another goal, keeping the game close, but Spalding were not to be denied. They continued to press forward, and despite green cards for Jacob Drew and Mayhew, they emerged victorious, with the fourth and final goal coming from Mayhew.

City of Peterborough 5th 1
Spalding Men’s 2nd 1
Goals: Pete Wright

The game started with Peterborough on the front foot, and it took Spalding a while to get into the game.
The second half saw Spalding up the tempo creating a number of good opportunities, but they failed to capitalise, and Peterborough went ahead after a quick counter-attack.
Spalding continued to press and were rewarded when Wright found the net.

Spalding Men’s 3rd 9
Cambridge Nomads 3rd 0
Goals: Glenn Richardson (4), Willem Borst (2), James Grant, Matthew McManamon-Cookson, Jack
Martin

Spalding started strong with Richardson scoring in the first 20 seconds.
They continued scoring with Borst getting past two Nomads players and sprinting half the pitch with the ball to slot it past the keeper.
Spalding remained dominant with Richardson and Borst both getting their second goals of the game and Grant making it 5-0 on the stroke of half time.
Spalding started the second half with Richardson getting his third of the game in as many minutes.
McManamon-Cookson then got on the score sheet by capitalising on a loose ball. Martin also scored with a reverse deflection at the back post with Richardson rounding the game off with a powerful shot for his fourth and Spalding’s ninth.

Cambridge Nomads 4th 1
Spalding Men’s 4th 0

Despite creating chances, decisions went against Spalding, and luck was not on their side. When a chance came Nomads’ way, they slipped the ball round the keeper to score the only goal of the game.
