Lorna stops serving after 45 years

After 45 years of raising thousands of pounds for charity through coffee mornings, Lorna Webb has poured her last public cuppa.

The 93-year-old, who is aided by a team of helpers, is now helping others take on the mantle of raising money for charity.

Lorna herself hasn’t been counting how much she’s raised over the years, but it started when the keen sportswoman set up the Gosberton Clough Poachers Hockey Club.

She’s also put on events for her husband Derek who was The Reader for three church parishes including Rippingale.

The pair raised a host of money for the building of the Jenny Freeman Lodge in Spalding now part of the St Barnabas Hospice.

Derek passed away nearly 16 years ago but she’s continued to put on a coffee morning four times a year, most recently backed by helpers Brenda Robinson, Ann Cooper, Irene Wright, Carol Pates, Jean Hill, Jack Twaite, Phyllis Baxter and Jean Lyon.

The former teacher at Donington Grammar School and Stamford College recently held her last coffee morning, at her Pinchbeck home and raised £352.89 for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

Over the years she’s also regularly helped a host of charities including Marie Curie and Macmillan.

Lorna has three sons, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She said: “It’s been wonderful.

“The highlight has been meeting so many wonderful people and having people buy the cakes and things you’ve made. It’s been so nice and I’ve had lots of fun.”
