Long Sutton Athletic suffered a disappointing ChromaSport Peteborough League Division One 4-2 defeat at Kings Cliffe on Saturday.
The Magpies were hoping to bounce back after their humbling against neighbours Sutton Bridge last time out – and despite a slow start they went 1-0 ahead when David Wilson outstripped the
defence and crossed for Sam Moses to score.
However, three quick goals from Craig Close, Jamie Andrew and Tom Lees fired hosts Kings Cliffe into a 3-1 half-time lead. That prompted Sutton supremo Danny Goddard to bring himself and
Tomas Gomes on for the second period – and it paid immediate dividends.
Goddard latched onto a flick-on from Matty Cawthorn and thundered home a dipping 30-yard strike to make it 3-2.
At this point Sutton looked odds-on for a draw, but Oliver Rose notched 20 minutes from time to wrap the points up.
- Sutton Bridge United continued their fine run of form in Peterborough League Division One with a 6-1 home win over Warboys Town on Saturday.
Matt Eaton, Ben Partridge, Jamie Griffin (2) and Jake Lally (2) did the damage at Memorial Park.
It was a bad day for South Holland sides in Division Two. Pinchbeck United Reserves were drubbed 6-0 at home by Glinton and Northborough, while a Markus Parry strike couldn’t stop Spalding
Town going down 4-1 at Ketton Reserves.
Crowland Town Reserves completed the set with a 6-2 home loss against Oakham United Reserves, despite goals from Jordan Aylward and Darren Paling.
In Division Three, Tydd St Mary romped to a 4-2 home success against Riverside Reserves.
Tom Wilshire put the visitors ahead on 32 minutes, only for Dan Piccaver to level four minutes before the interval. The Saints then seized command thanks to goals from Scott Pemberton (47 and 65) and Josh Slator (51), rendering James Curt’s late effort as mere consolation.
In Division Four, Thomas Grantham’s treble helped Long Sutton Reserves beat Rutland DR 6-1, while Jonathan Turner hit a fantastic four in Holbeach Bank’s 5-2 triumph over Stanground Reserves.
In the same division, Whaplode Drove went down 2-0 at home to FC Peterborough.
