Lincolnshire Police get physical with fitness mentors

Lincolnshire police is starting a new project to support the wellbeing of staff.

Officers and support staff often face difficult situations and the force is looking to help them deal with the challenges of being on the front line.

“Wellbeing has always been high on my agenda and so I am delighted to be taking this to the next level with the introductions of fitness mentors,” said Chief Constable Bill Skelly.

“It’s not just about our people; it is about the service we deliver. If we have people who feel good about themselves, they are going to deliver a good service,” he added.

Fitness mentors will provide support and advice on how to get fit and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Shift working can impact on sleep patterns and the ability to keep fit and the mentors, who are police staff, have experience of similar issues.

Half of their four-hours a week role will come from their duty time and the project has been developed in partnership with the University of Lincolnshire.

The mentors will work towards a level three certificate in personal training delivered by the YMCA Lincolnshire.
