LETTERS – Thanks to those keeping town clean

The Spotless Spalding Social Group has seen many areas cleaned and restored to a former glory, but lately I’m starting to realise that the group’s popularity is helping to connect the many good people of Spalding who quietly solider on in their areas.

On our Facebook page we have been taking people’s own work and trying to showcase it as best we can.

We’re really starting to see the scale of the volunteer effort going into making Spalding spotless.

Our regular meet ups have been attracting more and more attention but I want to make sure credit goes to the lone volunteers keeping their streets clean across the town.

Ian Haynes has personally been cleaning Park Road, Pennygate, Railway Close, Carrington Road and West Parade.

Piet Boekestijn has overseen the cleanup of Vernatt’s nature reserve, and helping recruit new volunteers to the cause. Rodney Marks has been working on West Elloe and Ladywood Road.

Gunita Sele has been cleaning Mayblossom Walk. Jane Goodger in West Pinchbeck. John Cooper on Pinchbeck Road. Cath Calbert and her husband on the Coronation Channel between Fulney Bridge and Pecks Drove Bridge.

County Care Independent Living Ltd have also been out helping clean up areas across the town as part of their community skills project.

This is just to name a few. I hope any more residents can send us their photos and comments for us to recognise and inform the rest of the town.

If you’re not on Facebook then email me on jmclean@sholland.gov.uk.

The next group litter pick is set for February 10 from St Thomas’s Road in Spalding at 11am. We’ll be meeting at the entrance to Aldi car park and making our way down the road. If anyone would like to get involved and join this huge effort across the town then it’s a good time to start. We would love to see even more new faces.
