LETTERS – Bring the sparkle back

I read with interest being a cyclist in Spalding area regarding the new cycle paths and speed limits in Spalding town centre.

I would love to see safer cycle paths in the area but would also like to see it being safer to walk on footpaths.

Firstly the speed limits. Do they seriously think that anyone will take notice of 20mph speed limits? They do not take any notice of the 30mph limits already in force. Who is going to police this as Spalding does not have an active amount of police to do this?

Why did we spend all the money in the past to make Spalding pedestrian friendly and now going to spend more money to make it a race track for people who are already using footpaths as cycle routes?

Spalding is losing its appeal with shops closing, should we not make the town centre totally pedestrian friendly, and more appealing for families without being hit by electric bikes, electric scooters, and pedal bikes?

Cycles could use The Crescent, Broad Street Double Street and Swan Street to go through the town centre without affecting the centre itself.

All footpaths in and around the Spalding area are fair game for bikes electric bikes and scooters regardless of signs.

With the electric bikes and scooters now reaching speeds in excess of 15mph it will only be a matter of time before someone is hurt.

Unfortunately Spalding has become totally unappealing, lawless and unkept.

And before any comments, yes I am born a bred and remember when Spalding was a lovely market town, surrounded by very pretty villages.

The council should concentrate on bringing the sparkle back to Spalding as quoted by them two years ago.
