LETTERS – Angry and dismayed over claim

I’m angry and dismayed over damaging comments made by a member of the opposition party in the recent article in The Voice about the St Paul’s election candidates.
I am not a liar. (Ed – Coun Rob Gibson made the claim after Mr Timewell declared he was running for the election as a ‘True Independent’ after applying to be the Conservative candidate for the ward but then resigning from the party after not being selected.)
I have sought legal advice on this matter and will be following the letter of the law.
There are libel laws in place to prevent this kind of action and during an election it is particularly frowned upon.
It can be seen as an attempt to damage an opponent’s reputation. I would never stoop to such actions, I am far too busy working for the community to get involved in any form of slanging match.
At the end of the day, the voters will choose who they think will best represent their interests and do the most for our town.
As far as my political status in concerned, I have always and up until recently been a Conservative voter, however, like many, I am tired of their bad decisions and bad management.
I feel that as a truly independent candidate, I will be in a better position to serve my town.
I do not have to agree with any other councillor or decision if it’s not in the interests of those that put their faith in me.

Steve Timewell
candidate for the Spalding St Paul’s ward alongside Vanessa Browning (South Holland Independents), Aidan Forman for the Labour Party), Glynis Scalese (Conservatives), and Julian Wheeler (Independent).
