Knitted bears are still needed – please could any knitters out there help?
A few weeks ago The Voice published a letter stating that the hospital at Kings Lynn did not require any more knitted bears.
I think that there may have been some crossed wires in communication as this was not really the case.
I have been organising the collection and delivery of knitted comfort bears for the Radiology Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn, over the past 18 months and during that time have received over 700 bears (other animals included) from the Moulton Ladies’ Group, Spalding Tollgate WI, South Holland Lacemakers, Broad Street Methodist and St Thomas’ Road Methodist Knitting Group, Indoor Bowlers and many other ladies or perhaps gentlemen in the Spalding area.
The Radiology Department at the hospital have now completely run out of bears and would like to appeal to yours readers again.
These bears are given to children who are attending the Radiology Department at King’s Lynn Hospital for various procedures and will possibly be going into a scanner with the child.
The bears help to keep them calm in what is sometimes a frightening experience and a little bear to hold onto has become quite important.
Because of where these bears may venture it is important that only new toy stuffing is used (no old tights, cut up rags or bean bag filling) and that no metal or plastic items are sewn onto the bears. For safety reasons no buttons, plastic eyes or beads should be used. The eyes, nose and mouth need to be embroidered with wool/thread.
The bears can be knitted in any combination of stitch, pattern or colour.
