LETTER: Is travellers’ site expense justifiable?

How lovely that there is going to be a beautiful marina in Sutton Bridge to look forward to visit.

However, once the fish canning factory opens in Sutton Bridge, it may not be as pleasant.

Or coming across the “temporary gypsy site” (sorry travellers), also in Sutton Bridge (Voice, December 22).

How on earth can the council justify this expense for these “travellers”? How much have they contributed to it?
And that expense will be neverending as there will be the usual clear-up once the travellers have gone on their way, that’s if they do actually ever move again.

I think us people who live in houses, struggle to pay our taxes, utilities etc have got it all wrong. Just get yourself a caravan and live rent free with absolutely no outgoings, just a stress-free life given to you by law-abiding people.
People of Sutton Bridge should protest and put a stop to the council making their village a dumping ground for all things unpleasant.

  1. Firstly I am saddened that the Spalding Voice would print such a letter , if this had been any other ethnic group I doubt you would have, yet the ethnic Intimidation and racial stereotyping of the gypsy and traveller community you seem to have no problims with.

The letter is an example of Cultural appropriation, the umbrella term that captures this ignorance and disrespect of others’ culture.. Society chooses to ignore the persistence of racism against the gypsy and traveller community in the media, despite the historical fact they were used many times before as a reliable way to build up ethnic hatred.

Anti-Gypsyism, is rampant both in its old and new versions..
