LETTER: Deadlock in Parliament

I write with reference to the above to review the issue.

The present political chaos is inspiring calls for a second referendum as a solution. It is not. The reason for the chaos is very simple. The UK majority voted for leave however the majority of MPs are remain supporters and they are doing their utmost to deny the leave mandate issued by the populace. In view of this the majority of the present members of the house are not able or willing to deliver Brexit.

This problem is crystallised by the fact that the person – the PM – allegedly negotiating for Brexit is a remain supporter and she is expected and promising to deliver something that must be total anathema to her. That fully explains the betrayal documents of the Chequers plan and now the draft deal. Both documents seek to impose BRINO not BREXIT and therefore a betrayal of the biggest vote ever made for a cause in our history.

The deadlock can only be resolved if the sympathies and support of the MPs coincide with the votes of the electorate who voted to leave.

Therefore I propose that a new election be called. This will give the electorate the opportunity to evaluate and cast their votes for MPs who support their wishes. That is the only way to move forward.

The suggestion for a second referendum is nonsense and only playing the EU game of seeking a second vote until they get the result they want. They have a history of doing this and their supporters are simply keeping in character.

A second referendum with the following options – Brexit, No Deal or remain in the EU forever – could result in each option gaining one third support for each option. Then what? More chaos, with no majority for any option. What if Brexit again gains a majority and the present composition of MPs remains unchange? There will again be deadlock with the majority of the House working to again undermine the popular vote as they are doing now.

We can only go forward by having MPs who fully represent their constituents and not seek to usurp their wishes.

That is not the present situation and therefore the chaos that exists.
