Learn to Play with town band

Holbeach Town Band is hosting a UK charity Music for All – Learn to Play 23 event on Saturday, October 7.

The event, between 10am and midday, offers new and returning musicians a chance to receive a professional music lesson for free.
The event is open to all comers, regardless of age, experience and background and aims to inspire, encourage and enable both new and lapsed musicians to enjoy the benefits of playing a musical instrument.
Mel Hopkin from Holbeach Town Band, said: “The past few years have shown how important music is to all our lives and how it can bring people together even in the most difficult of circumstances.
“We aim to help as many people as possible understand the unique joys and benefits of learning an instrument.
“Anyone interested in learning to play brass band instruments or looking to pick it up again, should come and join us in the band room for this celebration of music making. We’re delighted to be part of Music for All’s Learn to Play ’23 event and we can’t wait to get started.”
Four members have recently left the band to go to university.
They are cornet player Toby Walters, trombonist Alex Simpson, Jacob Simpson who plays flugel horn and cornet player Andrew Strange.
All have been with the band a number of years and were presented with a commemorative mug.
Mel continued: “Young players leaving for university is a recurring issue for the band.
“The band has a very successful training programme, with over 20 people learning to play in our starter and learner groups and in the training band.
“Unfortunately, it takes a lot of time and practice to reach the standard necessary for the main band.
“We need more players to join our ranks.
“We hope there are brass players who would like to join us.”
