Leading lights dazzle in Spalding and District Snooker League with dominant wins

The two leading teams –Donington C and Pyramid B – continued their dominance in Division One of the Spalding and District Snooker League with emphatic victories last week.

Unbeaten Donington C recorded their tenth successive win after a 5-1 home success over Gosberton B.

That victory was matched by Pyramid B, who won by the same margin against Services C as Jason Green (O63) rattled in the highest break of the Division One season so far.

Green hit a 71 break to join Keith Duly (O14), Dave Pearson (O14) – who made breaks of 21 and 22 – and Roy Jackson (R14) on the victors rostrum.

Third-placed Holbeach A lost ground on the top two after they went down to a 4-2 defeat away at Boundary A.

Jim Morrison (scr) made a 39 break in his opening frame win for Holbeach, but victories from Pete King (R7), Jim McGhee (scr) and Stewart Lilley (O7) saw Boundary home.

Services A moved level on points with Holbeach A after a 5-1 away success at Tulips A.

Pete Mullane (O21) produced a 44 break for the visitors, who also registered wins through Charlie Mullane (R21) on a respotted black, Paul Quincey (O14) and Jon Bettinson (scr).

Tulips B are just a point adrift of Holbeach A and Services A after a 4-2 away win at Holbeach D.

Neil Grant (R7) hit a 24 break to get Holbeach D off to a winning start before Mark Woodberry (O49) replied for Tulips by registering breaks of 26 and 27 in his victory.

Tulips B’s triumph was then secured by successes from Ady Sibley (scr) in a black ball game and Mark Wilkinson (O21).

Long Sutton A continue to set the pace in Division Two after a 4-2 victory at Gosberton D.

Matthew Smith (O42) made breaks of 20 and 22 to round off Sutton’s success which also saw wins for Wayne Dent (O35) and Sean Swinburn (O28).

Consti B closed the gap on the leaders by a point after a 5-1 away win at Consti H, which came courtesy of victories from Steve Spencer (R21), John Christian (scr), Martin Fear (scr) and John Keeton (O14).

Consti G slipped further adrift of the top two after a 4-2 defeat away at Boundary C where Paul Spittlehouse (O56) and Martyn McGee (R14) both sank 22 breaks for the victors.

Zak Rowlett (O21) hit a 23 break for Holbeach B in their 4-2 victory over Consti I while Paul Spicer (scr) and Jim Howe (O35) had breaks of 22 and 24 respectively as Crowland C were 4-2 winners over Pyramid C.

Gosberton C missed out on the chance to close the gap on table-topping Consti A in Division Three after a 4-2 home loss to Long Sutton C.

Keith Wells (O21) made a 41 break – the highest in the division so far this season – to help Sutton to a success which also featured wins for Dan Mayfield (O21) and Susan Leftley (R14).

Services B moved level on points with Gosberton C after a 4-2 home triumph over stable-mates Services D.

Paul Doades (R14), Jeff Collins (R14) and Tim Nash (O28) won the opening three frames to set Services B on their way to victory.

Consti D continue to move away from the foot of the table after a 4-2 away win at Pyramid E despite John Clapton (R7) hitting a 20 break for the hosts.
