Laughs bring in the charity cash

An open mic charity night at the South Holland Centre had the pounds rolling in and those in attendance rolling in the aisles last Friday.

Joining the headliner Keith Farnan and local comedian and compere Zeph Churchill were a host of brilliant acts, many of whom had never performed before.
They include Jason Simmons, Christopher Jardine, Craig Fowler, Jason Curries, Alan Simmons, Gleynis Dawkins, Michael Salvadori, mayor of Louth Julia Simmons and Jenny Beake.
The event raised funds for Mencap and Blood Cancer UK, the chosen charities of South Holland District Council chairman Andrew Woolf.
He said: “It went very well, better even than we thought it would.
“We had 11 acts, all with a different array of talents from illusionists to musical comedians to Jethro-esque acts, a fitness routine and a ventriloquist.
“We’re all really pleased and it went so well we’re probably going to look at do another.
“Thanks to all the acts and particular thanks to Zeph who had a role to do all night and she didn’t disappoint.”
Coun Woolf will be hosting a SHDC cake bake off event at the South Holland Centre on March 30, as part of the communities Spring in to Spalding event.
Bakers can bring their creations to the South Holland Centre at 10am and judging will take place at 11am.
Matty Edgell, winner of the Great British Bake Off 2023, will be judging the competition.
After the judging he will present the winner with a Spalding bake off winner apron and the cakes will then be sold to raise money for the chairman’s charities.
