Late Wisbech Town Reserves goal denies depleted Moulton Harrox in end of season fare

Depleted Moulton Harrox battled back from a 1-0 half-time deficit to pick up a 2-2 draw at Wisbech Town in their penultimate ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division game of the season on Saturday.

Mark Hardwick’s penalty after five minutes gave Wisbech the lead, but Jake Cawthorne and Joe Townsend struck just after the break to put Harrox ahead. However, Neil Goodbourn rescued a point for the hosts with five minutes left.

Harrox number two Paul Crowson was happy enough with a draw despite seeing his side slip to fourth in the table.

Crowson said: “Once again, we were down to the bare bones selection-wise.

“Sadly, we’re hampered by a league rule that doesn’t allow more of the Reserves to help us out.

“We’ve had a good season overall, but right now we’re just fulfilling fixtures. Wisbech, who were much stronger than they usually are, had the better of the first half and led thanks to what we felt was a dubious penalty.

“We had words at half time – and within 15 minutes we were 2-1 up.

“It probably should have been 3-1 as we didn’t get what looked a clear penalty, which cost us in the end.

“I can’t fault the lads, especially the players that came in. We’ve played better, but we’ll take the point and move on to our last game.”
