Pinchbeck United will be looking for more FA Vase glory on Friday night as they look to reach the third round of the competition for the first time ever.
They take on Dunkirk at the Sir Halley Stewart in an 8pm kick off hoping to continue their run in the competition.
Until this season they’d never won a match in the competition, but they’ve already seen off Holbeach United, Deeping Rangers and Sherwood Colliery so far this campaign.
They face a Dunkirk side from the Uhlsport Counties League Division One who are on a good run and in the play-off places, so Knights manager Lewis Thorogood has told his side can’t get complacent against opposition from a lower league.
“We’re into uncharted territory and it’s a big night for the club,” said Lewis.
“We want to do our best and go out and get that good result.
“They’ve got a good record so far this season and while they’re in a lower league at the moment we can’t underestimate them.
“We need to give them the full respect they deserve and expect it to be a really tough game.
“It’s a Friday night and hopefully we’ll get a decent crowd down there and continue our run in this competition.”
Pinchbeck will go into the game on the back of a last minute 2-1 win over Heather St Johns on Saturday, a much needed tonic after the Knights were thumped 6-0 at Deeping in the previous midweek game.
They continue to have a host of injury problems but battled back from being 1-0 down against bottom of the table Heather who are still searching for their first win of the season in the UCL Premier Division.
They took the lead in the fifth minute through Finlay Drew Barker but another fine strike from Avelino Williams levelled matters, his seventh goal of the season.
A second bookable offence saw Heather’s Kane Auld sent off with three minutes left.
And Pinchbeck capitalised, with Bailey Dilley netting his first for the club at the death.
“After a bit of a turbulent midweek at Deeping Rangers it was important to get back to winning ways,” Thorogood said. “We were a bit tentative in the first half which showed with how we conceded the early goal.
“But in the second half, we were back to being us once again.
“We were confident, played the ball around well and generally started doing what we do best again.
“It’s good to take that confidence into Friday night.”
Admission for Friday’s 8pm kick off is £6 adults, £2 concessions and £2 for ten to 16-year-olds.
