Keith claims top garden gong

Winners of the first-ever best front garden competition in Sutton Bridge have been announced.
The event was staged with the support of Sutton Bridge Parish Council and sponsored by Silverwood Craft & Garden Centre in Long Sutton.
The short-listed finalists were invited to a presentation with tea and cakes at Silverwood where the winners were revealed.
First prize went to Mr Slipper, of Falklands Road, whose garden was full of vibrant wonderful flowering plants which were well cared for, with not a weed in sight of the framed paved area.
The independent judges also felt that wildlife had been well catered for as, along the wall adjoining the grass area, there were wildcorn flower seeds which had been sown and were attracting many varieties of winged insects.
Second prize went to Mr Holmes, of Charles Road, whose walls were festooned with hanging baskets.
The narrow flowerbed along the picket fence had a wide variety of perennial plants which were all very healthy and well cared for.
The judges loved the garden as they felt everywhere there was a space the owner had placed reclaimed garden ornaments which were painted or gilded.
Mr and Mrs Greenaway, of Railway Lane North, took third place. Their arrangement of the plants was simple, but they were all beautifully clipped with one or two surprise plants and not a weed in sight.
Judges felt the overall effect was peaceful and very different from the neighbouring gardens.
Phil and Anne Scarlett would like to acknowledge not just the winners but the other residents who entered.
The independent judges had lots to debate to come up with the winners due to the high calibre of entries.
Next year they are looking forward to organising the competition again with even more gardens to consider.
