Katie wants people to smile

A Spalding 19-year-old is looking to put a smile on everyone’s face as she bids to be the ambassador for the Spalding Flower Parade next year.

Dental nurse Katie Fitter hopes she can inspire others who may have had mental health issues if she’s given the role for the event on Saturday, May 13, 2023.

“I love making people smile and making everyone happy in my life,” she said. “Although I struggle with my mental health and being diagnosed with BPD (borderline personality disorder) I have been working on myself and how to manage this so that I can continue to be happy without this diagnosis holding me back.

“I love my family immensely and have recently welcomed a new friend to the family, Wilson the cocker spaniel.

“He has really helped me to overcome a lot of my anxiety and deal with some of the other side effects that come from my BPD.

“He is a little maniac but such a ray of sunshine in my life!”

Katie says she loves to shop and travel and is interested in crystal and spiritual healing.

She describes working for Elegant Smiles as “truly the best thing I’ve ever done in the my life”.

“I work with the most amazing people,” she said. “The job has given me confidence as well as so many skills to be able to make myself a better person.

“I would make a good South Holland Ambassador because I want to prove that even when you feel as though there is no hope, there is!

“Everyone deserves a chance at something different in life even if your mental health sometimes holds you back.

“Anyone can do it.”
