Jail term: Lewis Webb

Jailed: Spalding United player caught drink-driving while banned from the roads

Spalding United player Lewis Webb is facing Christmas in prison after drink-driving while banned from the roads.

The midfielder – who turned 25 today (Wednesday) – was also driving without insurance.
He was jailed for eight weeks, disqualified from driving for three years and ordered to pay £80 as a victim surcharge.

Webb was joint captain of the Tulips last season.
His last game was at Stocksbridge Park Steels, two days before his appearance at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on December 1. He scored in a 2-0 win.

At the time of the offences, Webb, of Orton Southgate in Peterborough, was employed by League One club Peterborough United. His Twitter page states it was as a foundation phase lead coach.
It’s understood he lost his job as a result of the offences.

Spalding United chairman Chris Toynton said: “This is an off-the-field matter and the court has punished him for it.
“The club does not condone what Lewis has done, but we are not seeking to punish him further.
“He is a valuable player and, as far as I’m concerned, he will be available for selection again by the manager in the future.”
