Improving life for scheme residents

Sheltered housing residents in South Holland are set to benefit from a wide range of improvements to 14 community centres.

South Holland District Council has announced the project which started last month.
Communal facilities, including lounges, kitchens and patios, will be improved and tenants encouraged to use the meeting places.
One of the elements of the project sees the Long Sutton Youth Shed making flower planters along with bird and owl boxes. The materials have been donated by the Chosen charity in Holbeach.
The majority of the programme will start this month with partners the National Probation Service and Community Payback who will be working on community centres.
Among the jobs being tackled will be weeding and pruning outside areas and pressure-washing patios.
Equipment for this element is being provided by the council’s facility management contractor Mitie.
The council runs 14 centres in the district which are specifically for people who are capable of living independently but require occasional help and support.
The council will be working with the county’s community health services NHS Trust to deliver a pilot scheme aimed at helping tenants to manage health and wellbeing.
Lincs Digital will be running a number of session in community centres in South Holland to work with tenants who want to learn more about digital skills which could be improved.
Coun Tracey Carter (pictured), deputy leader and portfolio holder for communities and operational housing, said: “This is a fantastic project taking place over the next few months which will help the more vulnerable members of our community to feel not only listened to, but also provide then with revitalised community centres to encourage them to meet and socialise with other tenants, friends and family.
“I’d like to thank everyone involved, from our housing team at the district council and all our various partners from across the private and public sectors; I’m looking forward to seeing the results of the programme, as I’m sure our tenants are too.”
