Impressive performances at athletics comp

There were some impressive performances at the first of this season’s Boston and District Athletics Club Open Junior Sportshall Athletics Series events at the B-Hive Indoor Training Centre.
Events in the Under-15 Boys’ section were closely contested throughout with the host club’s Hayden Quantrill just edging into first place in all of the eight track and field competitions on the programme.
Quantrill’s performances laid down an excellent marker for the 2022-23 winter season with his best track results achieved in the Two Lap race (20.4 secs) and the Six Laps (69.5secs).
A shot putt measuring 8.51m, a score of 77 in Speed Bounce and a clearance of 6.66m in Standing Triple Jump were other notable performances by Quantrill.
Club mate Jack Clark-Atkins pressed Quantrill, particularly in the horizontal jumping events, recording 2.26m in Standing Long Jump and 6.36m in Standing Triple Jump and achieved 8.32m in Shot and 74 in Speed Bounce.
In his first club Sportshall Athletics competition Josh Tayo made a very promising start showing that, with further experience, he has the ability to raise his standards to a high level.
Tayo’s best performances on debut were in Four Laps (45.9 secs) and Six Laps (73.2 secs) and in Vertical Jump where he recorded a height of 53cms.
In the Under-13 age group Kirsten Richardson and Noel Donnelly-Coles, for B.A.D.A.C., produced some promising early season results with Oxfordshire-based Jonathan Denby applying some pressure.
Richardson won the Speed Bounce with a score of 71 and the Shot with a best putt of 5.22m and also finished in second place with 1 min, 25.8 secs for Six Laps and 1.71m in the Standing Long Jump.
Donnelly-Coles dominated the running events and won the Two, Four and Six Lap races, recording 23.4 secs, 52.7 secs and 20.9 secs, and also secured victory in the Vertical Jump with a height of 38cms.
Two Boston Under-11 girls produced really encouraging performances with Mia Clark-Atkins demonstrating her improved level of achievement in Standing Long Jump with a leap of 1.56m and Standing Triple Jump, recording 4.32m.
Lexi Mindham opened her 2022/23 winter season account with six individual event victories with her best performances achieved in Standing Long Jump (1.61m), Chest Push (5.50m) and the Four Laps completed in 52.3 secs.
In the Under-9 section Flynn Donnelly-Coles and Ellis Richardson were in contention with Katherine Denby from Oxfordshire.
Flynn won both the Two Lap and Four Lap races, recording 25.9 secs and 55.7 secs, and scored 41 in Speed Bounce and 1.37m in Standing Long Jump.
Ellis Richardson gained valuable Sportshall Athletics experience with his best performances achieved in Four Laps (63.4 secs), Standing Triple Jump (3.44m) and Two Laps completed in 27.6 secs.
