Hospital Trust looks for volunteer staff

A plea has gone out for volunteer help to support hospital patients and staff.

The United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust Charity is launching a new campaign to help promote and support its invaluable work to a wider audience.
The charity provides additional extras to lift the work of the staff, which is not provided by the NHS.
In recent months the charity has bought an interactive sensory play system for unwell children.
It has also supported the refurbishment of a bereavement room on a labour ward which is comforting for parents to spend precious time with their child.
A new digital therapy system for patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s allows them to listen to music, and enjoy old films.
“We are ambitious in supporting patients and staff and Lincoln, Boston and Grantham hospitals. There has never been a better time to get involved,” said Ben Petts, ULH charity manager.
“Volunteering is a great way to bring your skills, time and enthusiasm to support our charity.
“We are really fortunate and so appreciative of the support provided by our existing team of volunteers in our hospital. They are clearly visible in their bright yellow tops and play such an important role in both patient facing and back office jobs. They are worth their weight in gold.”
The new roles are going to be different and will concentrate on ensuring the charity has a presence around the county, showcasing the trust and what it does.
Updating charity information at hospital sites and in the community, attending a charity event or fundraising as part of a group are all suggested as new roles.
Voluntary Services Manager Andy Tysoe said: “We are excited for this new volunteering opportunity.
“The charity is an important part of giving patients the best possible care and this new role will allow us to achieve this even more.
“We have a wide variety of roles, from ward buddies to meet-and-greeters.”
The trust has hundreds of volunteers who are all greatly valued.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 who have at least four hours a week to spare.
“It is such a rewarding opportunity and the chance to make a massive difference for patients and staff working in our hospitals,” added Ben.
