Holbeach United looking to get the best out of Lockie ahead of Star showdown

Danny Hussey is hoping that new signing Jonny Lockie will find his feet at Holbeach United.

Tigers chief Hussey, who gave Lockie his first team debut as a teenager at Spalding United, has wrapped up a deal to bring the speedy striker to Carter’s Park.

Having left the Tulips for Deeping Rangers earlier in the season, Lockie will be looking to nail down a starting spot with Holbeach – and Hussey is hopeful the deal will be mutually beneficial.

“I wanted a new striker,” admitted the Tigers boss. “I know what Jonny is capable of and hopefully he’ll be a good fit here.

“He’s got lots of pace and gives us a different option going forward.

“We know each other well, he made his debut at Spalding when I was there with Marcus Ebdon.

“We’ve not sat down and spoken about anything in depth, but hopefully he’ll be good for us and we’ll be good for him. I think we’re probably one more player – a defender or midfielder – away from having a squad that I’m happy to take through to the end of the season now.”

Hussey takes his in-form Tigers to Peterborough Northern Star on Saturday (3pm), with his aim to keep their six-game winning streak in the Future Lions UCL Premier Division alive and finish above rivals Pinchbeck United.

He added: “Star will be a tough game, no doubt.

“We’re on good form, but I think the top three are out of reach. I want my boys to finish above Pinchbeck for a bit of local bragging rights.

“Nobody expects us to finish above them given their superior budget, so it’d be a feather in our cap.”

Influential keeper Ricky Drury returns on Saturday.
