Holbeach United boss Clifton left frustrated by recent postponements

Frustrated Holbeach United boss Danny Clifton can’t wait to see his new-look Holbeach United side on the pitch after yet another postponement last weekend.

The Tigers’ scheduled home game with Heanor Town was called off on Saturday morning due to a frozen goalmouth at Carter’s Park.

Holbeach have only played once in January so far – and that was a 1-1 draw at Pinchbeck United right at the start of the month.

Clifton has been busy rebuilding the squad and insists that they are chomping at the bit to play Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North football.

He’s hoping that Saturday’s game at Eastwood (3pm) and Wednesday’s home derby with Sleaford Town (7.45pm) will go ahead as Holbeach bid to launch a great escape from relegation.

“I was banging my head against the wall on Saturday,” said the Tigers boss, whose side are bottom of the table and ten points from safety. “I’ve never known anything like it in terms of postponements.

“We had a full-strength squad available and we’re all so excited to get playing.

“What we don’t want is the fixtures piling up, meaning we’ll have busy weeks at the end of the season.

“In the situation we’re in, it’s much easier to navigate games from Saturday to Saturday.

“Heanor wanted to come on Saturday, but the referee did a pitch inspection in the morning and we had one area of the surface that was frozen solid. It’s frustrating, but what can we do?

“We’ve brought in a lot of new faces over the past few weeks, but quite a few of them haven’t played a competitive game for Holbeach yet.

“As things stand, we’ve got the same 15 available for the Eastwood game and the squad feels strong.

“We’re all hungry to play and hopefully Saturday will go ahead.”

Saturday’s opponents Eastwood are 14th in the 18-team division but are 21 points better off than the Tigers. They’ve won just one of their last seven.

In-form Sleaford sit 12th and are having one of their best seasons in recent times under manager Tom Ward.
